Derek Petersen

Civil Engineer, P.E. in California
Real Estate Investor in multiple states

I am a financial freedom advocate and an investor in alternative asset classes with a focus on multifamily apartments. I specialize in situational opportunities that create cash flow and value appreciation over the long term. I strongly believe that quality property management is the most important aspect to having a successful property ownership experience.

I'm a licensed Civil Engineer in CA and AZ. In my past role, I designed and constructed mega-infrastructure projects for the government like the $2B light-rail project in San Diego. I enjoyed my job; providing mass transit for the good people of San Diego and improving people’s lives. In my current role as an investor and property manager, I enjoy providing quality living experiences to the communities we serve, and caring for our client’s properties like we do our own.

I've been a buy-and-hold investor since 2000; I feel called upon to assist with providing housing through our multifamily investments and take pride in serving our local community and nationally as a housing provider. Nationally and locally here in San Diego we are facing a housing shortage and I look forward to dedicating my life to being a part of the solution.

I am also hyper-focused on financial independence/abundance and love building monthly passive cash flow and assisting others in creating financial independence. For me the “Master Key” to life is financial freedom and the ability to spend the time we are given doing the things we truly love. For me, I love, love the outdoors. I enjoy golf, surfing, skiing, backpacking, international travel, and continual improvement as a person, husband, and a father.

Licensed Sonographer, CA
Real Estate Investor in multiple states

I grew up in a very loving family with 2 older brothers in a small town (400k people) in China. My father was a politician and my mother was a doctor (and she came from a family of doctors), which is why I decided to become a medical Sonographer, and went to UCSD in San Diego.

I was very interested in real estate investment, and watched as the market went crazy in 2005, but knew the timing was wrong and waited until 2009 to start investing. I took my savings and started to purchase multifamily in 4 different markets, and took advantage of the market correction and purchased as much as I could.

In 2018, I left Sonography to pursue a full-time career in real estate investment. My focus has been multifamily investing, asset management, trust deed investing, and helping others pursue a similar passion in investing.  I’m a mother to our young daughter, and I have a passion to travel and see the world and to appreciate different cultures.  I especially love food and art from exotic places.

You only live once. Live life to its fullness is my favorite motto.
